Solange I. Mussatto is Head of Research Group at the Technical University of Denmark, Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Biosustainability. She has been working for over 20 years in the areas of Biomass Conversion and Bioprocess Technology. Her work consists in using chemical engineering and biotechnology tools to create innovative solutions that can accelerate the development of a bio-economy with potential environmental, economic, and social benefits. Currently, her group conducts research on the development of efficient and sustainable process technologies to convert biomass into valuable products, including aspects of pretreatment, hydrolysis, fermentation, evolutionary engineering, downstream and techno-economic assessment (see more details at: BCBT group). The importance of her research is highlighted in more than 470 publications including more than 150 full papers published in high quality peer-reviewed journals, 3 patents, several book and chapters, and many international awards. She is Editor-in-Chief of the journal Methods X – Agricultural and Biological Science, Associate Editor of Biomass & Bioenergy and Brazilian Journal of Microbiology, and Advisory Editor of Biofuel Research Journal.
